Historically, Norway is not a leading nation for fashion. Yet, in recent years, research into Norwegian fashion has developed, and new fashion initiatives have been established. How does the increasing ‘cultural turn’ connect with the actual Norwegian fashion scene, which seems to be shaped by different values. In a country known for knitwear, folk costumes and rich craft traditions, how has Norwegian fashion developed in recent years? What industry is Norwegian fashion graduates trained for? What are the qualities and promises of future Norwegian fashion?
The talk is the fourth in the series ALPHA Talks: Nordic Fashion, moderated by Ane Lynge-Jorlén, director at ALPHA. It brings together communication and design professor Synne Skjulstad, designer and artist Margaret Abeshu and design theory professor Astrid Skjerven.
