Exhibition opening: Polyrhythmia in Paper

Wednesday, January 28, 2026 – 17:00Friday, April 3, 2026 – 15:00

We’re excited to invite you to the opening of “Polyrhythmia in Paper” on Wednesday 28th of January at 18.00. There will be an introduction to the exhibition & free drinks. Welcome!

“Polyrhythmia in Paper” is curated by Steffi Stouri in collaboration with ATOPOS cvc, and explores the work of Issey Miyake through rhythm and material experimentation. It is inspired by the late Japanese fashion designer’s signature of pleating and layering; with repetitions, folds, and patterns. These elements create visual and tactile rhythms similar to polyrhythms in music, shaped by pauses, movement, and transformation over time.

The exhibition further looks at Miyake’s tender understanding of the relationship between the body and any material which has the potential of becoming clothing, by featuring his experimental paper garments from ATOPOS cvc’s archive. These garments are shown alongside publications and fashion ephemera, a video work by Jackie Nickerson and a newly commissioned sound piece by Greek artist Manos Saklas. On the occasion of the exhibition, Saklas has also created a dedicated listening space activated by sonic elements, and rhythmic patterns drawing from Miyake’s methods.

“Polyrhythmia in Paper” extends on International Library of Fashion Research’s ongoing curatorial dialogue with ATOPOS cvc, and is part of their affective archives program, which engages with archives as embodied space through interdisciplinary research across artistic, scientific and sonic practices. “Polyrhythmia in Paper” is generously supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Hellenic Republic.
