Slow Fashion Book Club meeting #11

Wednesday, January 21, 2026 – 17:45Wednesday, January 21, 2026 – 19:00

International Library of Fashion Research presents Slow Fashion Book Club! Once a month, the book club will explore the intersection between fashion, environmentalism and social issues through a selected book. What impact does design, aesthetics and our sartorial choices have on the people around us and the planet? Slow Fashion Book Club is an open reading group for all seasoned industry nerds and curious newcomers.

This month's book is Style and Substance, edited by Bay Garnett. Garnett har worked as a stylist, editor and creative director for over 20 years, and was the first to do a story with old clothes in Vogue! She has also worked with UK charity Oxfam, curating their catwalk show with secondhand clothing at London Fashion Week. In this book, Garnett has collected essays, poems and more about different people's relationships with clothing. From Maya Angelou to David Bowie, Grace Coddington and James Baldwin, the book contains a multitude of thoughts on self-expression through clothing.

Read the book in advance, and meet up for a group discussion! Everyone is welcome, and you can email theslowfashionbookclub@gmail.com or DM @slowfashionbookclub on Instagram if you have any questions.
