Slow Fashion Book Club meeting #14

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 – 18:3020:00

International Library of Fashion Research

Once a month, the Slow Fashion Book Club explores the intersection between fashion, environmentalism and social issues through a selected book. What impact does design, aesthetics and our sartorial choices have on the people around us and the planet?

In May, we're doing a special edition as a documentary film club: join us for the screening of Threads of Resilience, which documents stories of creativity and resilience in Ghana, as communities navigate the complex realities of the second-hand clothing influx from the Global North, and the impact this has on environments and existing systems.

The film is made by Frida Theresa Nakarma Siekpe Lidbom, a sustainable fashion writer and storyteller with experience in circular and secondhand fashion. She combines practical experience from the fashion industry with a critical perspective on its environmental and social challenges. Her work explores how garments can regain value through reuse, and how this connects to broader questions of environmental justice and global systems.

We're happy to have Siekpe Lidbom with us at the library on this occasion - she'll be joining us for a conversation about the film and all things secondhand after the screening. Welcome!
