International Library of Fashion Research presents Slow Fashion Book Club! Once a month, the book club will explore the intersection between fashion, environmentalism and social issues through a selected book. What impact does design, aesthetics and our sartorial choices have on the people around us and the planet? Slow Fashion Book Club is an open reading group for all seasoned industry nerds and curious newcomers.
This month's book is Fashions, edited by Synne Skjulstad. The book focuses on Norwegian fashion practices that exist outside the dominating understanding of fashion, where fashion often is synonymous with ‘the fashion industry’. The book highlights the presence of different voices, systems, artistic projects and criterias for success in the Norwegian fashion space, and is an invitation to think about what fashion is and has the capacity to be. We'll discuss the first half of the book in the October session - reading up until p. 63.
